Gap Narrows Between Candidates for HRM Mayor

May 28, 2008

HALIFAX:  While support for Peter Kelly and Sheila Fougere as mayor both declined in the past three months, the gap between the two candidates has narrowed in the past quarter, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates, Inc.  When given the choice between Peter Kelly and Sheila Fougere as mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality, just under one-half of residents choose Peter Kelly, and two in ten support Sheila Fougere. The remainder do not plan to vote, would not vote for either candidate, refused, or did not offer a response. Regionally, support for Peter Kelly is highest in Bedford and Sackville, while support for Sheila Fougere is highest in Halifax.

These results are part of the CRA Halifax Urban Report, an independent survey of Halifax Regional Municipality residents. The results are based on a sample of 401 adult residents, conducted from May 2 to May 12, 2008, with results accurate to within +4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
