SAINT JOHN: Support for the ruling Liberals has increased in the past three months, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. Presently, six in ten (63%, up from 53% in November 2007) of decided voters back the Liberals, with one-quarter (26%, down from 32%) supporting the PCs.  Support for the NDP decreased (8% compared with 10%), while two percent (down from 4%) of decided voters prefer the Green Party.  The number of New Brunswick residents who are currently undecided, do not plan to vote, or refuse to state a preference currently stands at 44 percent.

Liberal leader Shawn Graham’s popularity increased and now stands at levels similar to November 2006. Presently, just under one-half (47%, up from 38% in November 2007) of residents prefer Graham for Premier.  Backing for the next leader of the Progressive Conservatives stands at 15 percent (down from 17%), while backing for Roger Duguay of the NDP decreased to five percent (compared with 8%).  Five percent (unchanged) of New Brunswickers like none of these leaders or prefer others.  The number of residents who do not offer a definite opinion decreased somewhat, and now stands at 22 percent (compared with 30%).
 
Satisfaction with the performance of the Liberal government has also improved and now stands at levels similar to August 2007 (68%, up from 63% in November 2007). Dissatisfaction is stable and currently stands at 24% (down from 25%).  The remaining eight percent (compared with 12%) do not offer a definite opinion at this time.

These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 802 adult New Brunswickers, conducted from February 14 to March 3, 2008, with results accurate to within +3.5 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
