The Employer Report Card

Employee Opinion Surveys: How well is your organization doing?
To provide a “big picture” response, CRA developed the Organizational Performance Scale (OPS)*, a proprietary set of employee opinion surveys. Simply put, you will be graded on a “Workplace Report Card,” based on your performance on each of several key subscales. Topics include Employee Commitment, Personal Development, Communication, Employee Value, and so on.

Employee Research can help improve organizational performance
In presenting the results of the employee research in the Workplace Report Card, CRA charts a path describing steps you could take to move up one increment on the Workplace Report Card, for example, from a B+ to an A-. This forward-looking, action-oriented section of the Report Card has been a popular aspect of the Workplace Report

GradeAverage Scale Score
A+4.4 – 5.0
A4.2 – 4.3
A-4.0 – 4.1
B+3.8 – 3.9
B3.6 – 3.7
B-3.4 – 3.5
C+3.2 – 3.3
C3.0 – 3.1
C-2.8 – 2.9
D+2.6 – 2.7
D2.4 – 2.5
D-2.2 – 2.3
F1.0 – 2.1
  • A scale score of 3.0 (the midpoint of the scale) results in a letter grade of “C.”
  • In order to obtain an “A,” employees must completely agree with at least some questions; a response of mostly agree to all questions would result in an “A-.”
  • If all employees mostly or completely disagree, an “F” would result (a failing grade).

*Technically speaking . . .

OPS was developed from a basket of survey questions using a five-point agreement scale. Questions represent actionable, “drill-down” dimensions that consistently appear on the majority of employee opinion surveys conducted by CRA. Subscales were derived thematically, utilizing input from various statistical techniques. Finally, a statistical reliability analysis was conducted to assess the relationship between items included in the subscales. Each survey question included in the OPS, as well as the subscales and the overall OPS score, are reported as averages, with 5.0 being the maximum score possible. Letter grades are then assigned to the averages based on the grading scheme above.
